Our kobudo History

Shushinkai's Phil Powell has taken an interest in practicing Kobudo (principally the Bo) for some years now, despite     the fact that until recent times he recieved no formal instruction. At the formation of the original Shushinkai SISKD asscociation Phil was nominated as the groups Kobudo development officer. At this time phil had already developed three basic kihon kata  for the Bo along with some ippon kumite. Things have a strange way of working out and due to a kind invitation by Shito-Kai Canada's Chief instructor Sam Moledzki to train  at a  karate seminar in Mexico 2003, the Chance to practice in a recognised system of Kobudo was about to be realised.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         It was mentioned that there was a keen interest in Kobudo and Sensei Moledzki said that he had trained for many years in Kobudo. At that time he also made an introduction to Fumio Demura Sensei. Both he and Demura Sensei had been students of Ryusho Sakagami, Shitoryu Itosu-kai founder  and a legendary weapons master. Since that time The Shushinkai school has maintained it's Kobudo connection with both Sensei's Demura  and Moledzki, every year Moledzki Sensei visits the UK and conducts a detailed Kobudo seminar for the group. We also receive a kind invitation from Sensei Julian Mallalieu, Genbukai Shitoryu UK, to attend Seminars By Demura Sensei When he visits the UK .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Phil Powell has now gone on to form a Kobudo practice group and is working hard on a training syllabus covering the Bo, Tonfa, Nunchaku, Sai and Kama.  Phil would like to express his gratutude to Sensei Sam Moledzki who has been and still is instrumental in the improvement of the Kobudo within the Shushinkai School. Phil is proud to be considered as one of Moledzki's Sensei's Kobudo students.
